At Yen Press, an American manga, graphic novel, and light novel publisher, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a realm I've always been passionate about—Japanese media. My love for this genre fueled my enthusiasm as I contributed to various aspects of the company. I was primarily involved in designing book covers and inserts and played a crucial role in bridging the gap between the Japanese originals and the English-speaking audience. Beyond book design, my responsibilities extended to marketing and event participation at Anime conventions! Witnessing the joy on the faces of fans holding products I designed was truly one-of-a-kind.

Books

Manga, light novels, and more ! When it comes to designing covers we look to the originals but have to design an entirely new logo. Crafting a logo involves an understanding of the book's essence and the typography used in the Japanese logo. Moreover, careful consideration is given to the placement of elements on the cover, as Japanese writing often flows from top to bottom. Printing and publishing these books demand a robust grasp of spot colors, file preparation, and a thorough review of color proofs. Designers at Yen work on the cover, insider cover, back cover, spine, and insert ! Basically, any colored parts.

Japanese Originals

Oshi No Ko Vol. 6

One of the best parts of the Oshi no Ko series is that I get to design the signatures of the characters on the cover. It is also one of my favorite series !

This Wolf Is Not Scary

This was the first logo I had the opportunity to design, and it’s one of my proudest accomplishments. In publishing, creating an original logo for a Volume 1 is a significant milestone, and I’m thrilled with how charming and playful the final design turned out.

And here are a handful more of covers I have helped design, the list goes on !

Online Presence

Yen Press maintains a robust digital presence through its social media platforms, ebooks, and YouTube channel. Many of the series released physically are also available electronically. To enhance reader excitement, chapter covers and book trailers are created and I was given the opportunity to work on a few of them !

Convention Materials

Yen Press has a strong presence at anime conventions owing to its status as a leading publisher. Our commitment to convention engagement is reflected in our practice of always offering adorable, free merchandise to attendees who interact with our booth. I had the opportunity to craft an array of items ranging from posters and magnets to buttons, ensuring each piece delivered a unique and memorable experience. Who doesn’t love free stuff?
